Head of Business and Tax Services
Michael Iwahiro joined The Burton Law Firm in April 2011 as Of Counsel, adding over 26 years of experience in business counseling and transactions for private companies and individuals. His practice areas include business structuring and formation, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, negotiated business dispute resolution, licensing and intellectual property protection in the areas of trademarks, trade secrets and copyrights. Previously, Mike headed the Business Services Practice Group at McDonough Holland & Allen PC, where he practiced business law for 24 years. Immediately prior to joining The Burton Law firm, he was a shareholder with the Portland, Oregon based firm, Bullivant Houser Bailey, practicing in its Sacramento office until its closure in March 2011. Currently residing in Placer County with his wife, Helen, and their two sons, Mike was raised in South Sacramento, attended John F. Kennedy High School and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, with bachelor and law degrees. In his spare time, Mike enjoys playing golf, gardening and spending time with his family. He has recently rekindled his interest in the great sport of tennis and enjoys accompanying his sons to their junior tournaments. Initially as a cost-savings measure, he learned to string his family's tennis racquets on a home stringing machine and has gained proficiency in that area as well. Although the demand for his stringing services appears to be growing, he has no plans to quit his day job. Mike is a long-standing member and past president of the Asian/Pacific Bar Association of Sacramento (ABAS). He currently serves on the board of directors of the ABAS Law Foundation, a non-profit arm of ABAS that supports law student scholarships, community outreach and legal education. He also serves on the board of directors of the Keaton Raphael Memorial, a non-profit organization formed in honor of Keaton Raphael to provide support to children with cancer and their families and to fund research toward a cure.
